History of Mapleton and Lilyponds - you can add to this!
Have you ever wondered how the Lilyponds (the site of our market) came to be the iconic centre point of our town? It is a fascinating story. So this page is dedicated to telling you the history.
A number of people in the community have been collating historical information and documenting stories. Web links to articles and historical documents will be added here together with local information otherwise unpublished. Where this page goes is entirely up to our community.
If you wish to contribute please contact us! Lindsey Wareham has written one book on Mapleton's history. David Penrose has worked with Lindsey to submit two articles to the Hinterland Times which were published in January and February 2009 editions. We hope this will generate some discussion and extra information!
The more we looked the more we found. Unfortunately it was not possible to include everything in the news articles, however we can publish that information here. We want to get the facts correct. Please tell us about extra information and corrections that need to be made. If you have early photos it would be great to add them. Lindsey is collating information for a second book and can be contacted on 5445 7253.
