Range Community Gym & Fitness Centre (Mapleton) Assoc. Inc.

History:

This Community Gym and Fitness Centre was established some ten years ago, following a generous donation of various items of fitness equipment by founding members Lou and Liz Rommel and Mike Considine.

At that time the President, Lou Rommel successfully negotiated an agreement with the Mapleton Bowls Club to lease the space at the rear of the club-house, at ground level overlooking the Mapleton lily ponds. The Gym was refurbished in 2005 after receiving a generous grant from the Jupiter's Casino Fund. After many successful fund raising campaigns and several other grants the Gym is now a spacious and attractive environment for the community. Thanks to a succession of dedicated committees the association is now debt free, and is operating as a non-profit facility. In order to keep our fees to a minimum fund-raising is still an essential part of our operation.

Our Aims and Obligations:

Unlike most city gyms and fitness centres, the Mapleton Gym has a somewhat different philosophy. Its operation embraces much more than just fitness. The centre caters for all age groups which include: elderly members of the community, the middle aged and young people. The centre also encourages members who have special needs, including DVA veterans, disabled citizens and those with general health and physio problems. Various school groups also attend from time to time. Other groups travel from nearby areas to enjoy continued physical improvement and companionship.

The Mapleton Gym addresses the many aspects of physical fitness and wellbeing for all age groups in the community. Aspects including: * Balance. * Weight resistance to improve bone density. * Muscle damage. * Muscle wastage. * Body toning. * Weight loss. * Aerobic improvement.        * Mobility. * Inspiration. * Encouragement and        * Companionship.

We are proud of the fact that the Mapleton Gym has played a significant role in improving the strength and fitness of several young teenage athletes, and is currently assisting one of our members to achieve selection for the London Paralympics.

Unique Environment:

Our members improve their fitness, health and wellbeing inside our well appointed premises. Circuit training, boxing exercises and `floor` exercises are undertaken outside, overlooking the beautiful lily ponds and parkland.

Our Instructor:

Paul Parker, is a qualified Master Trainer with the skills to design individual programmes for all members, depending on their needs and objectives.  Paul is a gregarious person who thoroughly enjoys helping people achieve their goals while having fun. He is equally comfortable working with the elderly, the disabled, middle aged and youth. We are deeply privileged to have his services.

Our Committee:

The Gym and Fitness Centre is administered by a Management Committee of local volunteers who are elected annually. It consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and a maximum of seven, and a minimum of three other Committee Members. The Management committee encourages other members to become involved in the day to day activities associated with our gym, including fund raising, social activities and general fellowship.
